How employers should handle allegations of workplace harassment ...

Hint, don't follow the CBC model or the MacEwan model.

The Financial Post has this advice for employers, based on the Gian Ghomeshi/CBC debacle:

  • Know the law
  • Train and educate
  • Recognize the signs
  • Investigate complaints
  • Protect potential victims
  • Avoid protecting the ‘star’
  • Call in the experts

Actually, I thought the CBC did significantly better than MacEwan, who to this day refuse to acknowledge the problems within Administration. At an institution where abuse is seen as an acceptable management strategy — MacEwan University — so that most Administrators are abusers, no policy will protect the victims.
